Andrea Hansen is Inuvialuit from Inuvik, Northwest Territories. Her work reflects a deep and enduring commitment to Indigenous self-determination, relationship-building, and meaningful reconciliation. Now based in Treaty 7 territory, Andrea brings over 20 years of experience working alongside Indigenous communities across Canada—through environmental consulting, not-for-profit leadership, and within the energy sector. She is guided by a deep respect for the land and the people who have cared for it since time immemorial.
Andrea and Anne Harding first began working together in 2022, co-leading Indigenous engagement initiatives for a regional municipality and collaborating to develop Indigenous economic reconciliation training. Their work together is grounded in shared values and a mutual commitment to learning, unlearning, and building bridges between communities, governments, and industry.
Throughout her career, Andrea has led community engagement, consultation, and investment efforts across a wide range of contexts—from land claim regions in the North to Treaty territories across Canada. Her experience includes contributing to traditional knowledge studies, environmental assessments, and reconciliation strategies that center Indigenous voices. She is known for her calm presence, her deep cultural understanding, and her ability to navigate complexity with care and clarity.
Most recently, Andrea served as Manager of Indigenous Relations at ATCO Group, where she co-led a team focused on implementing ATCO’s reconciliation framework and strengthening Indigenous partnerships across the company’s operations. Her leadership helped embed reconciliation principles into policy, practice, and culture. In 2024, she stepped into an international role as Tribal Relations Manager for RWE based in California, bringing her expertise and perspective to renewable energy projects while continuing to prioritize respectful, nation-to-nation relationship building.
Although her professional journey has taken her far from home, Andrea remains strongly connected to her Inuvialuit roots, finding ways to stay grounded in culture, kinship, and land—whether walking the trails in southern Alberta or visiting family in the North. She sees relationship as the foundation of all good work, and brings a grounded, collaborative approach to every engagement she leads.
Andrea’s strengths lie in her ability to foster trust, communicate across worldviews, and hold space for honest and respectful dialogue. She is particularly passionate about creating opportunities for Indigenous Peoples to lead in areas of economic development, energy transition, and cultural revitalization.
Through every project, partnership, and conversation, Andrea brings forward the teachings of her people, the lessons of the land, and a clear vision for a future built on respect, reciprocity, and shared purpose.
